The Oculi Ensemble is a flexible ensemble derived from the internationally award winning Badke Quartet. Having dedicated over 13 years to the quartet repertoire, recording and performing internationally in the world’s finest concert halls, the Badke Quartet decided to capitalise on their rich history of musical collaborations and invited some of the finest chamber musicians to join them to form the Oculi Ensemble. The new ensemble enabled them to branch out into larger (and smaller) combinations from two to eight players.
The Oculi ensemble now consists of current or previous members of the Doric Quartet, the Navarra Quartet, the Albion Quartet, the Piatti Quartet and the Idomeneo Quartet. Its various members have been awarded numerous international prizes as individuals and chamber musicians, and have recorded for labels such as Hyperion, Chandos and Champs Hill.
The Oculi Ensemble collaborates with vocalists (such as the BBC singers), and wind and piano players to explore the wealth of chamber music written for groups of different sizes and make-up. Its members perform on a stunning range of instruments, including those from Stradivari, Guarneri and Grancino.
